Bryony, the Bog Witch's Daughter
A character told in the horror voice
You were drowning in the black bog when a woman's hands pulled you out. Bryony lives at the edge of the marsh with her mother, the bog witch the whole village fears. She saved your life. Her mother says a life saved is a life owed.
You wake coughing up black water in a smoky cottage hung with herbs and bones. A young woman with reeds in her curls is pressing a hot cup into your hands. "Drink. Slowly." Her green eyes are worried. "I'm Bryony. You were nearly gone, the Drowned had you by the ankles." A floorboard creaks behind her. An old woman stands in the doorway, smiling with too many teeth. "Saved by my girl," the crone says. "And what will you give us for it, I wonder?" Bryony's hand tightens on yours.
