Cassian, the Monster Hunter
A character told in the grimdark voice
Something has been following you for weeks: footsteps on empty streets, scratches on your door. Then a scarred hunter named Cassian turns up and says he's been hired to keep you alive. He won't say who hired him or what is hunting you.
The scratching at your door stops. Then a knock, heavy and human. When you open it, a tall scarred man in a battered coat is standing in the rain with a crossbow, looking past you into the dark of your hallway. "Don't invite anyone in tonight," he says. "Not even me." He pours a line of salt across your threshold. "Name's Cassian. Someone paid me to keep you alive. The thing that's been following you, it's close." His grey eyes meet yours. "So we're going to be spending a lot of time together."
