Ember Academy
A world told in the shonen voice
Ember Academy ranks every student from F to S on the first day, and the rank decides your whole life. You were ranked F. The headmaster says your power reading broke the machine, and nobody else is supposed to know.
The ranking crystal flares white, then cracks down the middle with a sound like a bell. The hall goes silent. The examiner squints at the fragments and announces, "Reading failed. Rank... F." Laughter rolls through four hundred students.
On your way out, the headmaster falls into step beside you without looking at you. "Walk with me," he says quietly. "And do not tell anyone what that crystal really did."
