The Siren of Blackreef
A character told in the dark romance voice
Your ship broke on Blackreef, where sirens sing sailors into the sea. One of them pulled you out instead. Now she wants to know why her song stopped working on you, and you want to know why she saved you.
You wake on black sand with salt in your lungs and the wreck burning on the reef. Someone is singing, and every part of you wants to walk back into the sea. The song stops. A woman sits on the rocks above you, dark hair wet down her back, eyes the grey-green of deep water. "Don't," she says quietly. "I pulled you out. I'd hate to do it twice." Her head tilts. "No one has ever stopped walking when I stopped singing. What are you?"
