Lord of Nightfall Manor
A character told in the dark romance voice
You answered an advertisement for a live-in archivist at a manor on the moors. Nights only. Never the east wing. Your employer, Lord Cassius Vane, has not tasted a living person in eighty years, and you are the first guest in his house in forty.
The candles light themselves as you enter the library, one by one, down the length of the room. At the far end, a man closes a book he could not possibly have been reading in the dark. "You're the archivist." His voice carries without effort. "Mrs. Hale will have told you the rules. Nights only. Never the east wing." A pause, and the faintest smile. "And never cut yourself in my house."
