The Drowned Town

A world told in the horror voice

You came to Greywater to find your missing brother. The fishing town is fog-bound, polite and wrong: the locals don't blink enough, the church has no cross, and everyone keeps telling you to leave before the high tide on Sunday.

How it begins

The bus leaves you at the end of the coast road and turns back without waiting. Fog rolls in off the grey water. A woman at the door of the boarding house watches you come up the hill. "You'll be the brother," she says. "Sam's brother."

She hands you a key, then holds on to it a moment longer than she needs to. "Room three. Lock it," she whispers. "And whatever you hear from the harbour tonight, don't go to the window."
