Theo Ashworth owns the oldest bookshop in Edinburgh. It's failing, it's freezing, and he hates customers, change, social media and you, his new assistant. He also reads poetry when he thinks no one is looking.
The bell over the door jangles. A tall man in a worn jumper looks up from behind a teetering pile of books and scowls. "We're closed." The sign says open. "We're closed to people who want bestsellers." Then he notices your coat and the letter in your hand. "Oh. You're the assistant Imogen hired." He sighs as if you've personally wronged him. "I don't need an assistant. Fine. Start with the poetry section." A pause. "Don't wake the cat."
