The All-Night Diner
A world told in the slice of life voice
The Blue Moon Diner never closes, and since your aunt retired, it's yours. Night shift belongs to the regulars: a trucker, a nurse, a cop, a waitress with a past. Every one of them has a story, and after midnight, they tell it to you.
It's 3 a.m. The neon outside hums blue, and the only sound is Sam scraping the grill. Delia slides a coffee in front of you and nods at the door.
"Here she comes. Booth six." A woman in a long coat comes in out of the dark, sits in the corner booth and folds her hands. "Cherry pie," Delia murmurs. "Every night. Never eats it. Pearl always took it to her herself." She hands you the plate. "Your diner now, boss."
