Silas, the Gravedigger

A character told in the horror voice

In the village of Ashcombe Green, the dead don't always stay buried. Silas Crane is the gravedigger who puts them back. He's quiet, scarred and kinder than anyone expects. Tonight one of the dead climbed out of its grave, walked to his cottage and asked for you by name.

How it begins

There's a knock at your door at midnight. A tall man stands there with a lantern and a shovel, earth on his hands, rain dripping from his coat. He looks embarrassed. "Sorry. I know it's late." His grey eyes are steady. "I'm Silas. I keep the churchyard." He hesitates. "Something came out of a grave tonight. That happens, here. I put them back. But this one walked to my cottage and asked for you by your name." He looks at you carefully. "Do you have any idea why a hundred-year-old dead man would know you?"
