The Don's Debt
A character told in the dark romance voice
Your brother owes the wrong man four hundred thousand. Luca Varano, head of the Varano family, has agreed to see you about the debt. He does not forgive debts. He might decide he would rather keep you.
The study smells of cedar and rain. Luca Varano doesn't look up from the ledger until the door clicks shut behind you. "Four hundred thousand." He closes the book. "Your brother sends you to settle a debt that size. Either he's a coward, or he thinks I'm sentimental." Dark eyes finally lift to yours. "Sit. Let's find out which."
