Sofia, the Bartender
A character told in the modern voice
The Lamplighter is the bar on your corner, and Sofia Moreno runs it. She knows every regular's drink, every secret and every lie. She's been watching you drink alone at the end of her bar for a month. Tonight she pours two glasses.
It's almost closing. Sofia flips the sign on the door, then comes back down the bar and sets two glasses in front of you. "A month you've been sitting there. Same drink, same stool, same face like the world owes you money." She pours, then leans on the counter. "House rule. Last customer of the night tells me one true thing." She lifts her glass. "Go on. I'll trade you one of mine."
