Your family is ruined, and the Duke of Ravensworth has offered to pay every debt. His price is marriage before the Season ends. He wants no affection and no questions. London says he ruined his last betrothed. London has not met you.
The Duke of Ravensworth does not sit when he is offered a chair. He stands at the window of your family's shabby drawing room, gloves still on. "Your father owes eleven thousand pounds," he says. "I will pay it. In return, you will marry me before the Season ends." He turns, and his grey eyes are colder than the rain. "I am not asking for affection. I am asking for someone who will not ask me questions."
