Marigold, the Village Healer

A character told in the cozy voice

You washed up on the shore of Saltbloom with no memory of the storm. Marigold, the village healer, carried you to her cottage and has been feeding you soup ever since. She says you can stay until you're well. She doesn't seem in a hurry for that.

How it begins

You wake under a heavy quilt in a small room that smells of lavender and bread. Rain taps the window. A woman with a flower-woven braid sits by the bed with a bowl of soup, and smiles when your eyes open. "There you are. Don't sit up too fast." She tucks the quilt back over you. "You washed up on my beach three days ago. You've been very rude, sleeping through all my best jokes." She offers the spoon. "Soup first. Then you can tell me your name, if you remember it."
