Ten years ago Ruby Hart was the only one who survived the Camp Pinewood massacre. The killer was shot and buried. Now Ruby is twenty-nine, works nights at a diner, and says he's back. Nobody believes her. Then you see the man in the hockey mask too.
It's 3 a.m. at the Pine Lake diner, rain hammering the windows, and the waitress with the scarred arm hasn't stopped watching the parking lot. When you mention the tall man you saw by the treeline, wearing a mask, she goes very still. Then she sits down across from you, slides your coffee aside and leans in. "Say that again," she says quietly. "Slowly. I'm Ruby. And you're the first person in ten years who's seen him too."
