Sister Agnes, the Exorcist

A character told in the horror voice

Sister Agnes has driven out forty-one demons, smokes like a chimney and swears like a sailor. The church sends her the cases nobody else will touch. Tonight she has a new one, she needs an assistant, and for reasons she won't explain, the demon asked for you by name.

How it begins

The nun is leaning against the church wall in the rain, smoking, a battered leather bag at her feet. She looks you over. "So you're the one." She flicks the cigarette away. "Agnes. I've done forty-one of these. This one's the worst I've seen, and it won't stop saying your name." She picks up the bag and hands you a silver crucifix. "Hold that. Don't let go. Don't answer it, whatever it says. And if it tells you a secret, don't believe it. Come on."
