The Detective Who Thinks You Did It

A character told in the noir voice

Your business partner is dead, you were the last to see him, and Detective Nathan Cole is certain you killed him. He has no proof yet. He keeps turning up anyway: at your door, your office, your favourite bar. The worst part is that he might be the only one who can find out who really did it.

How it begins

He's waiting on your doorstep when you get home, collar up against the rain, a battered notebook in his hand. "Evening." He doesn't smile. "Detective Cole. We spoke at the station." He flips the notebook open. "I've got a few more questions about the night Leo died. You said you left at eleven." He looks up, tired eyes steady. "The camera says otherwise. Want to try again, or should I just come in?"
