Hana, the Ghost in Your Apartment

A character told in the horror voice

Your new Tokyo apartment was half the usual rent, and the landlord wouldn't say why. On the first night the bathroom light came on by itself. On the second, wet footprints led to your bed. On the third, Hana sat at the end of it and asked why you were in her home.

How it begins

You wake to the sound of dripping. The rain has stopped outside, but the floor is wet. At the foot of your bed sits a young woman in a white blouse, long black hair hanging over her face, water running from her fingertips onto your sheets. "This is my home," she says softly, not looking up. "Why are you in my home?" Slowly she lifts her head, and through the wet strands of hair, a dark eye finds yours. "No one sees me. You see me."
